Traditional Maharashtrian Puran Poli Recipe: A Sweet Flatbread Delight

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the filling:

  • 1 cup split red lentils (masoor dal)
  • 1 cup jaggery powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons ghee

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough by combining flours, salt, turmeric, and oil. Gradually add water to form a smooth dough. Knead for 10 minutes.
  2. Prepare the filling by cooking the lentils and mixing with jaggery powder, cardamom, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Assemble the Puran Poli by placing a portion of the filling in the center of a dough circle. Fold and press edges to seal.
  4. Cook the Puran Poli on a hot griddle with ghee until golden brown.
